Cuentos is an ongoing oral history project whose goal is to record and preserve the life stories of southern Californians of Latin American-descent.
Supported by the Intercollegiate Department of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies at the Claremont Colleges, Cuentos is a digital presentation of a growing archive of Latina/o life stories, housed in Claremont. A product of the collaboration between students and faculty, as well as the many people whose experiences and memories comprise our local communities, Cuentos seeks to share selections of each of these oral histories to demonstrate the powerful lessons to be learned from everyday people’s lives.
In the pages above, you will find short “cuentos” written about individual Latinas/os. Each is based on a digitally-recorded and archived “life history” interview, most often conducted by a student at the Claremont Colleges. Each set of “cuentos” is digitally presented according to a central theme, as reflected in the page titles above.
